Who is behind this
My Vellur is not a company project. It is run by people from the village, for the village.
My Vellur is maintained by a small volunteer team with roots in the village. Between us we handle the moderation queue, chase people for photographs, correct the spellings of names, and make sure that a notice which matters actually reaches the people it is about.
None of us is a journalist. What we can promise is that everything published here was read by a person from this village before it went up, and that we will correct anything we get wrong as soon as it is pointed out to us.
Information about a village tends to live in the wrong places: a notice taped to a wall that comes off in the rain, a message in a group that scrolls away, a job opening that reaches three people instead of thirty.
My Vellur is an attempt to fix that with something very simple — one address, easy to remember, where the news, the events, the openings, the photographs and the requests for help all sit together, and where anyone can contribute but nothing goes public until a person from the village has read it.
The second reason is memory. Photographs of a festival are worth a great deal in twenty years. Right now most of them are on phones that will be replaced. Sending them here keeps them somewhere.
